John Tehan and Dan Graziano combined to win the Stonebridge Country Club Men’s Invitational golf tournament in Naples, Florida.

1975
Roberta Liebenberg was named “Best Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers for Antitrust Law, Philadelphia. (April 2020).

Roberta (Bobbi) Liebenberg, a senior partner at Fine, Kaplan, and Black, was honored as the 2019 inductee to the American Antitrust Institute’s Private Antitrust Enforcement Hall of Fame on November 12, 2019 in Washington, D.C. The Hall of Fame recognizes practitioners for distinguished service to the private antitrust enforcement community.

Howard Trickey joins Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt as a Litigation Shareholder with 40 years of experience as a trial and appellate lawyer representing a diverse group of clients across many industries and practice areas. Howard has also devoted a substantial part of his practice to employment law and traditional labor relations and represented Alaska Native Corporations, Fortune 500 companies, privately-owned companies, nonprofits, and school districts.

1976
The Honorable Maureen Lamasney, a Circuit Court Judge for Prince George’s County, Maryland, will co-chair a task force on police reform for the county.

Katherine Meyer
recently accepted a position as Director of Harvard Law School’s new Animal Law & Policy Clinic. The new program was launched in August of 2019.
 
1977
James P. Ulwick was recently recognized for legal excellence and client service by the 2020 Chambers USA legal ranking guide. Ulwick is a principal at the litigation firm Kramon & Graham in Baltimore and leads the firm's Class Action practice.

1978
Arthur (Art) Fuccillo celebrated the Washington Nationals’ first World Series win as one of the minority owners of the team.

1982
Francis “Pete” Jones, Jr. has been confirmed by the Delaware Senate to serve as a Judge of the Superior Court of Delaware. Jones has spent over 37 years practicing law and has been with the Delaware firm Morris James LLP since 1983.

1985
Tom Scheuermann and long-time colleague, Dr. Robert T. Carter, recently co-authored and published a book entitled Confronting Racism: Integrating Mental Health Research into Legal Strategies and Reforms. This book proposes a comprehensive approach to confronting racism through a foundational framework as well as practical strategies to correct and reverse the course of the past and catalyze the stalled efforts of the present.

1986
Molly Reynolds Fitzgerald was recently appointed to the New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division, Third Department by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Kathleen G. Walsh was named one of Virginia Lawyers Weekly’s “Leaders in the Law” for 2019. Now in its 14 th year, this awards program recognizes lawyers across the commonwealth who are setting standards for Virginia lawyers. “Leaders” are recognized for changing the law, serving the community, changing practice or improving Virginia’s justice system, among other accomplishments. Kathleen is a Virginia attorney whose practice specialties encompass Social Security Disability, Personal Injury, and Virginia State Workers’ Compensation.

1988
Christopher Conte was inducted into the North Haven High School Hall of Fame. Conte maintained a high standard of excellence in both academics—as a member of the National Honor Society—and athletics—earning a combined seven varsity letters for soccer and baseball, receiving multiple All-Area and All-State honors in both sports.

1989
Nanci Nishimura has been appointed to the California Commission on Uniform State Laws. The announcement came from California Governor, Gavin Newsom, on Thursday, December 5, 2019.
 
1990
Catherine Hanaway has been named Chair-Elect of Husch Blackwell and will step into the position in April of 2021. Hanaway joined the firm in 2013 and will be the firm’s first female Chair.

Ellen Rattigan Jessen has been appointed by New Mexico Governor Lujan Grisham to the bench as a judge for the Twelfth Judicial District Court. Jessen will be sworn in on Monday, July 20, 2020.

1993
Stefan Marculewicz has been appointed to Independent Mexico Labor Expert Board. The board was established as part of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that went into effect on July 1, 2020.

Eileen Brown
has been named managing partner of the Thompson Coburn LLP’s Washington, D.C. office. Brown is the second female managing partner for the D.C. office.

1994
Michael J. Desmond was announced as Plenary Keynote Speaker at the 2020 Midyear Tax meeting.

D. Michael Lyles was appointed as Annapolis City Attorney by Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley. Lyles will take over for acting City Attorney Kerry Berger following confirmation by Annapolis City Council at its December 9, 2019 city council meeting.

Ron Quirk recently had an essay published in the Eugene O’Neill Review. The article examines one of Eugene O’Neill’s undervalued plays, Dynamo.

Jim Riley
has been named to The Hill’s Top Lobbyists 2019 list. The annual list honors individuals who have throughout the course of the year proven most effective in working on behalf of their clients. Riley is being recognized for his success in obtaining a rare exemption from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for members of the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) of which Riley is Chief Counsel and Senior Vice President for Government Affairs.

1995
The Hon. Gregory T. Douds was promoted on June 8, 2019 to the rank of Major in the Georgia State Defense Force. He has served as an Assistant Staff Judge Advocate since December 2014, primarily in support of the Georgia Army National Guard’s Legal Assistance program.

David Reeves was elevated to Chair of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners effective November 1, 2019. Previously, in November of 2015, David was appointed a five-year term on the Florida Board of Bar Examiners and in October of 2018 he was elected Vice Chair of the Board by his fellow board members.

John Sten has been named partner at Armstrong Teasdale’s new Boston firm and is the new Co-Leader of AT’s Securities and Litigation practice area.

1997
Susan E. Burke has been appointed vice president and director of assumed reinsurance in the casualty treaty department of Liberty Mutual Re (LM Re) part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group.

Scott N. Flesch has been appointed by The Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army to serve as the next Army Chief Trial Attorney (CTA). The Army CTA serves as the authorized representative of the Secretary of the Army with sole authority and responsibility for the conduct and control of litigation of contract disputes for all Department of the Army cases docketed with the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals, excepting certain types of appeals originating from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As the Army CTA, Flesch will oversee the litigation activities of 34 military and civilian trial attorneys and paralegals who are assigned to the Contract and Fiscal Law Division (KFLD) of the U.S. Army Legal Services Agency. Flesch's term as the Army CTA will begin on January 1, 2020.

Tamara Connor has joined Klyndved Peat Marwick Goerdeler (KPMG).

Anne M. Donohue, member of the Board of Visitors, has joined Blank Rome in their Washington, D.C., office. She is in the firm’s Government Contracts group.

Daniel Gallagher returned to WilmerHale as a partner to represent and counsel clients on securities-related regulatory, policy, litigation, and enforcement matters.

Brian Stolarz and his work to exonerate Alfred Dewayne Brown—who served 12 years on Texas Death Row—will be highlighted in the new Netflix docuseries The Innocence Files. The hour-long episode will detail Brown’s wrongful conviction and provide a look behind-the-scenes at
the Stolarz’s hard work.

1999
Shannon M. Heim has been appointed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan to the Governor’s Task Force on Broadband. Shannon’s term runs October 14, 2019 through April 2, 2023. Shannon had previously been appointed to the Task Force under Governor Dayton and served until it expired when Governor Walz was elected.

2000
William Beckwith was named Employee of the Year at the Federal Communications Commission, where he serves as a Senior Policy Attorney-Advisor in the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau. Will was recognized by the Commission for his leadership and innovation in drafting a report to Congress that identifies states’ diversion of 911 fees billed to telephone customers to non-91 and non-public safety uses.

Cecelia TaBois joined the firm of Eskovitz, Lazarus & Pitrelli, PLLC in March of 2020, providing real estate services.

2001
Natasha Vij Greiner has been named Associate Director of the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examination’s investment adviser and investment company examination program by The Securities and Exchange Commission.

Patrick Hope, Delegate for the 47 th District in the Virginia House of Delegates, was recently interviewed by PBS in regards to the gun-rights rally held in Richmond.

Deana A. Labriola
has joined Fox Rothschild LLP in Raleigh as a partner in the Corporate Department.

Melissa Netram was recently named the Chief Innovation Officer and Director, LabCFTC at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. With this position, Melissa and her team are responsible for ensuring responsible innovation in the derivatives markets.

Rob Stein was appointed Chief Public Policy Officer of InterDigital. Under the new title, Stein is responsible for growing the company’s business through the influencing of legislation, regulation, and public policies.

2002
Thomas G. Allen, Greenberg Traurig, LLP, spoke at panel hosted by The District of Columbia Court of Appeals Appellate Mediation Program. Thomas joined colleagues for the special panel event entitled “Innovations in Mediation and Arbitration.” Keeshea Turner Roberts joined the Howard University School of Law’s Fair Housing Clinic as an Adjunct Professor and Supervising Attorney.

Fatima Johnson
has started a new position as Executive Officer-Office of the Chief Information Officer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Timothy Trysla has been recognized by JD Supra in their annually selected “Readers’ Choice Awards.” Trysla is one of four attorneys from Alston & Bird, LLP to be recognized. Trysla has nearly 20 years of health care policy experience in both the private and public sectors and with this recognition, he ranks among the top ten authors publishing about healthcare-related matters.

Ari Ghosal was made partner at Selzer Gurvitch Rabin Wertheimer Polott & Obency, P.C. Ghosal works in the firm’s corporate/ business, labor and employment, government contract, and intellectual property group.

Kevin Murphy was appointed as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Warwick, Rhode Island. For Kevin, “It’s an honor to serve [his] community and [his] home state in this new capacity.”

2004
Nate Huff has been named to Phelps Dunbar LLC’s partnership, effective January 1, 2020. Huff practices in the Raleigh office in the areas of federal, business and, constitutional litigation, and white-collar crime.

Jonathan Pomerance has joined PilieroMazza as an associate in the firm’s Government Contracts, Litigation & Dispute Resolution, False Claims Act, Cybersecurity & Data Privacy, and Claims and Appeals practice groups.

Robert Salzer has been appointed a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), an honor reserved solely for skilled negotiators and experienced litigators who represent individuals in all facets of family law.

Brendan Carr, Commissioner of the FCC, was honored as the recipient of the Jerry B. Duvall Public Service Award. The award was presented at the Phoenix Center’s 19 th Annual U.S. Telecoms symposium “Keeping Pace with Dynamic Industries.” Carr received the honor for his political courage and gave the keynote remarks at the event.

Cordell Hull has been named Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security for the United States Department of Commerce.

Edward Meyers has been nominated by President Trump to serve as Judge on the United States Court of Federal Claims.

Jessica Springsteen joined Clifford Chance as an associate in 2011.

Craig Trainor was appointed to the New York Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. His appointment is effective in June 2020.

2006
Stockton Banfield has recently joined Guidant Law Firm in Phoenix, Arizona, to help small and mid-sized businesses affected by state-mandated shutdowns. Banfield will address challenges these businesses face in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, including Small Business Administration loans and loan workouts. Additionally, Banfield will work on commercial leasing, real estate disputes, contractor agreements, employment agreements, asset sales, and general operational matters for the firm.

Marie-Louise (Malou) Huth was named Chief counselor for the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

2007
Ariel Gonzalez has been named Senior Vice-President of Policy and Government Relations for March of Dimes. Gonzalez will lead the development and implementation of March of Dimes’ federal and state government affairs and public policy agenda. The Government and Policy Relations team is responsible for advancing March of Dimes’ legislative priorities that would improve health equity, reduce prematurity, preventable maternal mortality and make measurable strides for the health of moms and babies.

William Phelan was elected Catholic Charities Appeal (CCA) President of the CAA Board of Directors. Phelan has served as a member of the CCA Board since 2016 and advanced to the role of President after four years of dedicated service to the organization. He is the youngest Board President in CCA history.

Joseph M. Saka and his wife welcomed a son, Steven Leon Saka.

2010
Samuel C. Higginbottom, Florida associate at Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin, has been named a shareholder of the firm. Higginbottom is based in the firm’s Tampa office where he is a member of the Casualty Department.

Wojciech Jarosiński (LL.M.) was profiled in the “Who’s Who of Foreign Attorney’s” article in the Fall 2019 issue of the National Jurist. Attorneys featured in the article were all accomplished graduates of various LL.M. programs in the United States that were designed for students from other nations.

The group Republican Women for Progress, co-founded by Jennifer Pierotti Lim, was featured in last month’s ABA Journal in an article titled, “Meet the Groups Helping to Get Women Elected.

Bridget S. McCabe has been elected to the BakerHostetler partnership in Los Angeles, California. McCabe focuses her practice on high-stakes, complex commercial disputes in federal courts across the country, including antitrust litigation, trade secret misappropriation, patent infringement, Administrative Procedure Act challenges, and commercial contract claims.

Brian M. McKeon was named a share holder of Brownstein in Washington, D.C. McKeon is a member of the firm’s Government Relations Department and is a leading Senate strategist who identifies, secures and preserves appropriations funding, and primarily focuses on policy issues related to agriculture, sustainability, corporate compliance, supply chain transparency and technology.

Timothy J. Canney has been made a partner at Curtin Law Roberson Dunigan & Salans, P.C. He continues to practice in the areas of business/ corporate law and tax law.

Lauren Powell McDermott '11 and Bryan McDermott '12 are pleased to announce the birth of their son, Marty, on February 5, 2020.

Michelle Curth married Bryan Galloway on October 5, 2019. The ceremony was officiated by Catholic Law Professor Sarah H. Duggin.

John Morgan was sworn into the Air Force as a JAG Officer in the West Virginia Air National Guard. Morgan joins the 130th Airlift Wing which is based in Charleston, West Virginia. Due to the ongoing national health concerns, the ceremony was conducted virtually on May 7, 2020.

Alex Kalim was sworn in as Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia on July 23, 2020.

Abby Onaghise
has joined Eckert Seamans’ Washington, D.C., office in the firm’s business division. She focuses her legal practice on corporate transactions relating to hospitality industries.

2015
Daniel Kane launched his own solo practice focused on startups and small businesses. His mission is to provide greater access to counsel for entrepreneurs in New York State and across the country. Anthony Clark has joined the law firm Kramon & Graham as an associate in the Real Estate practice group. Clark represents developers in all aspects of commercial and multifamily acquisition, development, and lending from entity formation through dissolution.

Richard Kisielowski started a new position as Executive Secretary and Special Advisor to the Chairman at Export-Import Bank of the United States.

Rory Murphy was named by Legal500 a "rising star" for US Government Relations attorney.

Amanda L. Tharpe is now at Clark Hill as an environmental law associate.

2017
Samuel J. Mott is an associate in the Vorys Washington, D.C. office and a member of the litigation group.

Chima Okoli been named Penn State's new representative on the Big Ten Advisory Commission.

James Roth has joined Miller, Miller & Canby’s Litigation Practice Group, where he concentrates his practice in real estate litigation with a focus in eminent domain, as well as business and commercial litigation.


In Memoriam

1963
Ralph Rohner passed away on June 11, 2020. As a Catholic Law Professor Emeritus and former dean of the Law School, Rohner was a renaissance man and a truly influential individual. His loss is monumental and the Law School is thankful for the vision that he shared with us all.

1964
Lawrence M. Sullivan passed away peacefully on September 9, 2019 at the age of 82. He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Catherine “Kate” Durkin Sullivan, three children, three step-children, and 11 grandchildren.

1967
T. David Stapleton, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 15, 2020.

1968
The Honorable Roger Gauthier passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2020, at the age of 76. During his time at Catholic Law, he was an Editor of the Law Review, and following law school, he received a direct commission into the Navy Judge Advocate General Corp. and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. During his career, he also held positions as Assistant United States’ Attorney for New Hampshire, the Assistant Hillsboro County Attorney, a lawyer at the law firm of Valeshka and Kozlowski, and then Kozlowski, Gauthier and Parodi, and as the Associate Justice of the Nashua District Court.

1973
Richard H. Fine passed away on January 24, 2016.

Barry F. Kowalski, a Justice Department lawyer who prosecuted high-profile civil rights cases, most notably winning the convictions of two white Los Angeles police officers in 1993 for the beating of Rodney G. King — an episode that touched off one of the nation’s worst urban riots — died on Sunday at his home in Arlington, Va. He was 74.

Kenneth May of Silver Spring, Maryland passed away on January 25, 2018.

1976
Raymond Anthony Tiernan passed away peacefully on June 28, 2020.

1982
John C. Livengood passed away on June 26, 2020, at the age of 68.

1985
John R. Bukowski of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on October 30, 2019, at the age of 68. John is survived by his wife of 43 years, six children, three grandchildren, his mother, and two brothers.

1988
Marty O’Toole died in Los Angeles on Tuesday October 15 th 2019. He lived his days as a formidable fighter for truth, justice, and honor, but delighted most in the gift of human connection. he is survived by his parents, four sisters, one brother and countless adoring nieces and nephews.

1991
Susan M. Noon passed away July 17, 2019 at the age of 66. She had retired from her position in the U.S. Department of Labor as a Policy Analyst in the Employment Benefit Security Administration. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Carmine James Spellane, and her son, Aron, both of Washington, D.C., as well as three brothers, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
